IEP meeting yesterday with the Psych, Teacher, District Rep., RN, Principal. The RN is my age but the rest are about 25 years younger. Not that it should matter but IT does. The last public school teacher my little boy had was TOO young and very immature. SO, I am PRAYING for the best here. This teacher has been teaching for over 10 years and that is a positive to me. New teachers are wonderful but I feel very strongly that new special education teachers new to have a co-teacher...no I don't mean a para-teacher...I mean a licensed experienced teacher. Experiences speaks here.
Now I wait for the IEP 504 and Health Care Plan to be typed up and see if I approve. I don't just sign off on legal documents. I make sure these plans work for my son, not the school. Especially since Utah schools have Flexibility Waivers and DO NOT have to abide by the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND federal law by Pres. Bush in 2002. Sad, that obama has allowed entire states to leave the program. LOWERING the standard of education means our entire population will be behind the world in education AND we already were WAY behind in 2002 when the law, that I supported was passed.
They have a back to school night which we won't go to like most families with children with Autism. We will go to school today when it's quite and almost empty. Too much noise and too much movement isn't
what my child with Autism needs for an introduction to a school.
So, I will keep you updated on this introduction. I of course pray it will go well. I for the first time in this 9 year experience actually LIKE the psych. She may be young but she is really sweet and kind. THAT was a huge shock. The others I have had to work with (insurance reason) have been rude, know-it-alls and just pissed my husband and I off every time we had to visit or talk with them....this lady is a blessing, so far, so good!
HAVE A BLESSED DAY! j
